Lovedale Gives Back

Davidson forward Andrew Lovedale has been getting a lot of press recently for his contributions on the court.

The 6′9″ senior is averaging 13.9 points per game and 10.7 rebounds.

However, it is Lovedale’s service to his home country that has prompted the most recent interview with USA Today.

According to teammates, Andrew Lovedale is #1 on the team when it comes to charitable endeavors.Andrew Lovedale

The Big Cat keeps a stash of gym shoes, t-shirts and practice jerseys in his locker, which seems to grow at every practice. What is the point of this collection? Lovedale collects the equipment to take back to his native Nigeria and give away as a form of payback for his success.

“I say I am very lucky,” Lovedale said in the interview. “I go home and see guys who jump higher and run faster. I don’t know why God picked me … but whatever way we can help them out, we try.”

Davidson teammate, Steph Curry commends Lovedale on his charity. “We go through a lot of shoes” he said. “We get caught up in, if there’s a little scratch on them, ‘Can we get a new pair of shoes?’”

But those shoes do not go to waste.

Lovedale ships whatever he can to those less fortunate in his home country and whatever he cannot send, he takes with him when he visits.

“I take bags and come home with nothing,” he said. “It’s always nice giving.”
